Paddock Slashing After Rain: When Is the Right Time?
Mid Coast paddocks often look fine one week and surprisingly tall the next after rain. Paddock slashing after rain is a common request, but timing matters as much as grass height.
Rain grows grass quickly
Warm, wet conditions across Wingham, Taree, Forster Tuncurry and nearby areas can produce a noticeable growth spike in a short window. Fence lines, low paddocks and sheltered tree lines are usually the first places to thicken.
Why wet ground changes the plan
Slashing on saturated ground can rut tracks, bog equipment and leave an uneven cut. Steep or low-lying areas may need extra drying time. When you enquire, mention recent rain and whether vehicles can access the block without cutting up the driveway or paddock.
Practical timing tips
- Send photos after rain showing both grass height and ground surface.
- Note any dams, drains or boggy patches near the work area.
- Be flexible. A dry day or half-day window may suit better than pushing through wet ground.
- If growth is urgent for access or compliance, say so; partial areas may be workable first.
Do not wait too long either
Letting wet-season growth run away means a longer, harder slash later. If the ground is not ready yet, planning a booking as soon as conditions improve helps secure a spot before the seasonal rush.
